The Maltese has a lot of energy. At times they get very hyper and run all over the place. They are suited for any living condition. They can also make for an excellent apartment pet. The Maltese is smart and is a fast learner. This breed loves your company and does not react well to being alone for a long period of time. The Maltese is the kindest of the small dogs but they will bite if provoked. It is a fearless dog. For this matter they are not the ideal pet for children and do not get along well with other animals.
